Orissa to establish 2388 Primary and 928 Upper Primary Schools in 2009-10: Educationally backward blocks to have model schools

Replying to the Budget discussion amidst uproar in the State Assembly, School and Mass Education Minister Pratap Jena on Monday said steps were being taken to set up another Sainik School in Western Orissa. The Minister also announced a number of steps to strengthen the elementary and primary education in the State.

Jena also announced that one model school on the line of Central school would be opened up one each in the backward blocks of Orissa which are lagging behind in education. “Computer would be provided to the higher secondary schools,” he said, adding that the schools would also be provided with the internet facilities.

In a bid to strengthen the elementary education, he said class VIIIth would be opened up in 5,616 schools. “Free books would be distributed to all students upto class-VIII,” he said, adding that dress would also be provided to the girl students.

“Government has also planned to set up 2,388 new primary schools and 928 upper primary schools

in the State,” Jena said, adding that Government is planning to set up a high school within the radius of five km each.
