Tathya.inBhubaneswar:8/July/2009

Finally Vedanta extended its support for easing the power crisis in the state.

M Siddiqui, CEO Vedanta said as the state has been facing severe power shortage during the last few weeks, Vedanta has come forward to help the Government by providing 200 MW power daily to the State Grid.

Power will flow from its own power plants from 8 July, said Mr.Siddiqui.

It is learnt that Vedanta has managed to provide the power at the rate of Rs 3.60 per unit, much less than the current market price which is Rs 6 to 7 per unit.

In fact, Vedanta had been providing 115 MW of power from it’s Group Company BALCO in Chattisgarh to the State Grid since 4 July.

Looking at the continuous demand in the state, Vedanta extended its supply with effect from today from Jharsuguda and has managed to provide additional 100 MW of power to the State Grid.

The total capacity provided by Vedanta will cover up a significant portion of the power shortage in the state.

Mr. Siddiqi, expressed his satisfaction that finally Vedanta could manage to provide the required power to the state grid during their need.

He added that this was accomplished in the face of sever challenges like shortage of coal, non availability of railway racks, etc.
