Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) would be set up in every block of the State in next two years. This decision was taken at a meeting on technical education at the under-graduate level chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The Central Government would be requested to set up 100 ITIs in the tribals-dominated areas. Besides, ITIs would be also set up with cooperation of major industrial houses. It was informed that there are presently 29 ITIs, 446 Industrial Training Centres (ITCs) and 13 Government and 72 private polytechnics in the State.
Eleven ITIs have been upgraded into Centres of Excellence from the 2005-06 to 2009-10 academic years, seven of them being upgraded on the public-private partnership basis. This year, six more ITIs will be upgraded. Besides, permission for setting up of 14 new polytechnics has been given by the Union Government.
