Despite relentless efforts by the district administration to curb diarrhoea, the situation still continues to be grim. While the Government claims 26 deaths the unofficial report says the deaths have crossed 40.

Since last one month the diarrhoea death has parted siblings from their parents and vice-versa. In few villages the housewives of many families have died where as in other places households have died.

Two deaths have been reported recently on September 5 in the village of Mirkul of Sagda GP under Bhawanipatna block. The victims have been identified as Naran Naik (25), wife of Archhu Naik, and Singani Majhi (14), son of Chepta Majhi. Few cases of malaria have also been reported here.

With the help of BDO and volunteers of a NGO Jana Kalyan Sanstha admitted two patients of Mirkul village at district headquarter hospital here. The rising deaths have become a grave concern for all.
