Assembly panel unhappy with education standard in Kalahandi

The Standing Committee IV of the State Assembly, which reached here on Tuesday, held a review meeting regarding the performances of the Departments of School and Mass Education, Higher Education, Sports & Youth Service, Science and Technology and Information and Technology. Committee chairman Surendra Singhbhoi and members Rajendra Kumar Dholkia, Pratap Sadangi, Braja Kishore Pradhan, Rajendra Kumar Das and Bijaya Kumar Mohanty were present. Kalahandi Collector R Santhgoplan and other Government officials were also present at the review meeting. Later, the committee members left for Lanjigarh for an on the spot visit of the area.

While visiting the Maskapadar UP School and TRW High School, the committee expressed concern over the poor quality of education in both the schools. When members asked a 9th class student in TRW High School to name the Chief Minister of Orissa, he could not answer.

However, they appreciated the quality of education at the DAV International Public School situated at the staff colony of Vedanta Alumina Ltd.

Two committee members, Brajakishore Pradhan and Rajendra Kumar Das were not pleased with VAL's hospitality. Later, chairman of the committee and COO of VAL, Mukesh Kumar, called both MLAs inside the company premises again.
