A village known as Urladani having a total population of 800 under Madanpur Rampur block of Kalahandi district is famous for the heroic sacrifice of tribals including their leader Rendo Majhi, who fought fearlessly against the British in 1855.

However, Urladani, which is located hardly 16 km away from Madanpur Rampur, is in highly deplorable condition even after 62 years of Independence. The village still remains in darkness throughout the year as not even a single village of this GP has been electrified.

Health facility is in shambles with only one ayurvedic hospital and an ANM centre in this village. The tribals here are daily wagers. They have no source of entertainment.

However, this year, on the occasion of Vijaya Dasami, 14 male artists of Urladani GP and five female artists from Pattamundai in Kendrapara district staged a drama named Janhaku Deichi Punnei Rana, directed by Pitambar Maharana with musical accompaniment by Sukleswar Ratnagiri of Jajpur.

Vedanta Alumina Limited has been sponsoring all cultural events at the Saheed Rendo Majhi Rang Manch at Urladani village since the last three years.

Chief guest and headmaster of Marding TRW school, Janmejaya Sabar, chief speaker Manmohan Pradhan, guest of honour Satyanaryan Das, manch president Gokul Patra and secretary Sudhanshu Sekhar Mohanty spoke on the occasion.

The drama kicked off late in the night after performing of all rituals followed by welcome song and a Sambalpuri group dance. Over 3,000 people from 15 villages enjoyed and appreciated the drama sitting under the open sky throughout the night. The drama came to an end in early morning.

The villagers are now anxiously awaiting the next Vijaya Dasami for another series of entertainment.
