Children’s Day Celebrated in a Big Way at Lanjigarh

Lanjigarh, November 14: It was a different day for children of Lanjigarh. The environment was rocked with excitement as they celebrated children’s day function with none other than Mrs. Kiran Agarwal, Executive Trustee of Vedanta Foundation and wife Mr. Anil Agarwal, Chairman, Vedanta Resources. The tiny tots sang, danced and made merry with this special guest, who flew from London to mark the birth anniversary of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru with children of Kalahandi. Mrs. Agarwal was also equally excited to play and interact with children of Kalahandi district with fun, frolic and festivities. 

During her address to a gathering of more than 2500 children and public she said, “I am very privileged to celebrate the day with children of Kalahandi”. She also assured that Vedanta Foundation will make all effort to cover all the underprivileged children of Kalahandi district and help in their development by providing good nutritious food and education.  More than 1500 children from 40 child care centers run by Vedanta Foundation participated in the day-long celebration. 

Mrs. Agarwal  presented the Vedanta Meritorious Award to students of Kalahandi district, who have secured highest mark in last High School and +2 Examinations.

Mr. S. Chaamundi, GM of Vedanta Foundation informed that more than 31000 children in the age group of 0-6 years from Kalahandi and Rayagada district are being covered by the Foundation. For holistic development, the foundation serves the children by providing fortified nutrition supplements, health care services and pre schooling. The foundation is working with 1000 Anganwadi centers and very soon another 500 centers would be added, she informed. 

In her visit to Lanjigarh, Mrs. Kiran Agarwal also inaugurated a Health center for people of Vedanta Niyamgiri Nagar. She paid special visit to Anganwadi centre of Maskapadar and Child Care Centre of Bhatguda. She also inaugurated the Science Exhibition at DAV Vedanta International School in Lanjigarh.

She was accompanied by Mr. M. Siddiqi, CEO of VAL; Dr. Mukesh Kumar, COO, VAL; Mr. Umesh Mehta, VP; Ms. Ruby Thapper, VP (CSR), and Dr. Sabita Swain, Chief Medical Officer of VAL.
