Vedanta trustee flies in from London to be with children of Kalahandi

Executive Trustee of Vedanta Foundation Kiran Agarwal, wife of Chairman of Vedanta Resources Anil Agarwal, flew in from London to celebrate Children’s Day at Lanjigarh in Kalahandi district.

Addressing more than 2,500 children, she said, “I am very privileged to celebrate the day with the children of Kalahandi.” She assured that the Vedanta Foundation would make all efforts for the underprivileged children in Kalahandi district and provide nutritious food and education for their development.

More than 1,500 children from 40 child care centres run by the Vedanta Foundation participated in the day-long celebration. Kiran Agarwal presented the Vedanta Meritorious Award to the students who had secured the highest marks in Kalahandi district in the last High School and Plus 2 examinations.

GM of Vedanta Foundation S Chaamundi informed that more than 31,000 children in the age group of 0-6 years from Kalahandi and Rayagada districts are covered by the foundation. For holistic development, the foundation serves the children by providing them fortified nutrition supplements, healthcare services and pre-schooling. The foundation is working with 1,000 Anganwadi Centres and soon another 500 centres would be added, she informed.

Kiran Agarwal inaugurated a Health Centre for the people of Vedanta Niyamgiri Nagar. She paid a special visit to the Anganwadi Centre of Maskapadar and Child Care Centre of Bhatguda. She also inaugurated a science exhibition at the DAV Vedanta International School at Lanjigarh. She was accompanied by Vedanta Aluminium Ltd CEO M Siddiqi, COO Mukesh Kumar, Vice-President Umesh Mehta, VP (CSR) Ruby Thapper and Chief Medical Officer Sabita Swain.
