The Ambassadors of five countries who landed at Utkela Airfield on Tuesday during their visit to Kalahandi district were welcomed by ADM Chudamani Seth. The ambassador reached hotel Bhagirathi Inn here by road amid tight security.
District Collector RS Gopalan welcomed them at the hotel where during a meeting they inquired from the Collector about poverty, food habit, diseases, resources and strength and weakness of the district. The Collector said “we are in transition period. Malaria is the main problem here in the district. Regarding poverty, the Collector said Kalahandi is much better than other places.
Denmark Ambassador Ole Lonsmann, Ambassador of Sweden Lars Oluf Lindgren, Ambassador of Iceland Gudmundur Eiriksson, Ambassador of Finland Terhi Hakala and Ambassador of Norway Ann Ollestead were accompanied by their secretaries.
The ambassadors visited Khamari village under Gaigaon GP of Kesinga block, about 37km from here. They met the people and interacted with the women SHGs of Luthran World Service (LWS). LWS senior officer Asin Sarkar acted as translator between the women and the ambassadors. Later on the ambassadors inquired from the women about their day to day and family lifestyles. They also asked about the health, sanitation, education and sources of income.
