A debt-ridden farmer of Sialpala village under Rajpur GP in Karlamunda block committed suicide on Monday by consuming pesticide.
According to reports, Dambaru Rana (40) had gone to his land where he consumed poison. He was rushed to a nearby hospital by fellow villagers. Later, while on the way to Kesinga Hospital he passed away.
Villagers say the farmer had taken some loan and unable to repay it, he committed suicide. The farmer owned a cultivable 2.5 acre of land, the crops in which was reportedly damaged by pest attack and insufficient water.
