In a startling revelation, the performance of NREG 2009-10 in different districts of Kalahandi was found far from satisfactory against the total availability of Rs 50.54 crore.
In a review it was found that the district was able to spend only Rs 7.72 crore till November 26, which is only 15 per cent of the total funds.
At this pace, the district will not be able to spend more than Rs 20 crore during this fiscal. Panchayati Raj Commissioner SN Tripathi in a letter on December 7 directed Kalahandi Collector RS Gopalan to remit Rs 20 crore in two demand drafts of Rs 10 crore each to the State Employment Guarantee Fund.
The letter stated that in case the performance of the district improves in coming months, funds will be made available so that no labourer goes without work.
