Give thrust on education: Bhupinder

BHAWANIPATNA: Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh today said improvement of educational infrastructure in Kalahandi district can help minimise regional imbalance. He was speaking at the inaugural function of Golden Jubilee celebration of Government Autonomous College, Bhawanipatna, which kicked off today.
The inaugural function will continue till February 6 and the valedictory function is scheduled to be held during year-end. The college was set up in 1960 as a science college. Later it was accorded autonomous status by UGC and declared a college of excellence.
Speaking on the occasion, Niranjan Panda, chairman, Western Orissa Development Council (WODC), said thrust should be laid on education and agriculture in Western Orissa, particularly in Kalahandi, to usher in development.
Bhakta Charan Das, MP, said there is a need to create educational environment and infrastructure in the college. He raised the demand for setting up a university in Kalahandi.
Manikeswari lectures were delivered on the occasion. Eminent scholar Dr Madhusudan Pati presented a paper on ‘Naba Nirmita Purana Patha’. Former staff and principals of the college were felicitated.
