Bhawanipatna autonomous college jubilee fest begins

The golden jubilee celebrations of the Government Autonomous College, Bhawanipatna, started here with great fervour and enthusiasm on February 1. The celebrations will continue for six days till February 6.
On the inaugural function, Kalahandi Collector and chairman of reception committee RS Gopalan welcomed all the guests. Retired employees of the college were felicitated by chief guest and chairman of WODC Prof Niranjan Panda, MP Bhakta Charan Das and Opposition leader Bhupinder Singh and executive council chairman of Government Autonomous College, Bhawanipatna, Prof Gopabandhu Behera.
A seminar magazine of the Oriya department of the college named 'Ret Dhara' was also inaugurated.
WODC chairman Niranjan Panda supported the education system introduced by Union Minister Kapil Sibal and said the Government Autonomous College, Bhawanipatna should be upgraded to a university as it has already completed 50 years of journey from a humble science college to an autonomous college with courses in science, commerce and arts streams. He also said that during his tenure as chairman of WODC he has introduced free tuition to SC/ST students in 25 colleges but unfortunately the Government autonomous college here could not start its free tuition to SC/ST students due to shortage of lecturers. All the invited guests stressed on the importance of education while addressing the function.
Convener of the core committee of the Golden Jubilee Celebration, lecturer LN Sahu proposed the vote of thanks. Principal of the college, Ujagar Patel was also present.
