BHUBANESWAR: President of Samruddha Odisha Jatish Mohanty has demanded the resignation of Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste Development Minister Bijay Ranjan Singh Bariha for the sexual exploitation of tribal girls in kanyashrams.

Mohanty, who visited tribal dominated Nabarangpur, Koraput, Kalahandi, Nuapada and Balangir districts in the last week alleged that lack of administration in the kanyashrams and sevashrams have given a chance to the vested interests to exploit the tribals girls.

He alleged that those trying to correct the situation are being threatened by these people who are exploiting the girl students. He demanded that security in all the kanyashrams in the State should be upgraded.

Alleging that there is no administration in the five districts visited by him, Mohanty said that tribal people do not have access to health services as hospitals in these areas do not have doctors. Besides, farming is also affected because of lack of irrigation facilities, he added.

He said that corn is cultivated in 20,000 acres in Nabarangpur district.

But the farmers do not any government loan for corn cultivation and have to depend on private loan.

Neither the district administration has set up a mandi for procurement of corn nor there is any processing plant, he said.
