Coinciding with the celebration of the district-level Utkal Diwas, a book fair was inaugurated here on Thursday at the Government Girls’ High School here by Collector RS Gopalan.
There was discontentment among the locals over the absence of Planning and Coordination Minister Ananga Udaya Singh Deo, who was originally scheduled to inaugurate the book fair as the chief guest.
The book fair, the first of its kind to be organised in Kalahandi district, will conclude on April 7. As many as 63 stalls have been opened in the fair.
ADM Chudamani Seth presided over the inaugural function of the fair, while Superintendent of Police Sudha Singh attended it as the guest of honour. Chief speaker Dr Kabita Barik, a college lecturer, gave a brief account of the formation of the separate State Odisha on April 1, 1936. DIPRO Basanta Pradhan delivered the welcome speech. Umesh Chandra Satpathy, a teacher, coordinated the programme. DCC secretary Kalicharan Mohanty was also present on the dais.
