BALANGIR: With Operation Green Hunt already launched in Maoistinfested areas, Balangir and Kalahandi districts saw two of its brave sons being killed in the line of duty while fighting Naxals.
Balangir people bid a tearful adieu to the valiant soldier Hemanta Naik (23) of Rinbachan village on Monday. As the body of slain Naik reached his village, the cries rented the area. For Rinbachan villagers, Hemanta sacrificed his life for the sake of nation but his parents were inconsolable as they lost their only son. He is survived by five sisters. His parents were preparing for his marriage and had plans to construct a new house with Hemanta’s savings. Hemanta used to send money for his parents every month.
He joined Orissa Special Armed Police (OSAP) in 2007 and received SOG training recently. ‘’Hemanta will remain in our memory forever,’’ said Hemanta’s schoolteacher, who came to the village to bid farewell. Balangir SP Ajaya Sarangi and Collector Sailendra De attended the funeral.
KALAHANDI: Thousands of people bid farewell to Brijendranath Rout (25) of Brundabahal village under Dharmagarh sub-division. Thousands of people gathered at the slain soldier’s house. The only son of his parents, Brijendra joined OSAP in 2006 and was posted in Malkangiri district after he completed SOG training.
