Govt approves 8 projects for Rs 2,962 crore

The State Government on Wednesday approved eight different projects for Rs 2,962 crore. Among the projects approved, while five are related to cement, the rest are downstream industries.

These projects were approved in the single window clearance committee meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Taruna Kanti Mishra. Though nine projects were placed, one project proposed by ACC Cement Limited was recommended to the High-Level Clearance Authority headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik because more than Rs 1,000 crore needs to be invested in this project.

According to approvals, Sea Shore Company would set up a huge maze processing unit at Papadahandi of Nawarangpur district for an investment of Rs 160 crore. The company will also set up two Mega Watt thermal power plant on the site. The Government will provide 123 acre of land for the project.

Sterilite Technology Limited will set up a downstream project at Lanjigada investing Rs 51 crore. This project would manufacture aluminium alloy rods. The third project would be set up by Kalinga Calsiner Limited at Udayabhatt near Paradip at an investment of Rs 153 crore. The company would produce petroleum coke.

A project by Hindusthan Bidyut Production Limited (HBPL) was also approved in the meeting. HBPL would set up a downstream industry at Jharasuguda for Rs 389 crore. This would manufacture aluminium cables and conductors.

Two project proposals of Madras Cement Limited were approved. It would set up a cement industry at Sundargarh for Rs 750 crore. This industry has a proposal to produce cement named Ramco Cement. It would also produce a captive power plant of 36 Mega Watt capacity. In the second project, the company estimates to invest Rs 750 crore.

The sixth project which got approved is a cement industry. Shree Cement Limited of Bangalore would establish the industry at Malkanagiri for Rs 653 crore. It has set a target to produce two million tones of cement every year.

The last project which was approved on Thursday was by Emami Paper Mills at Somanathput of Balasore district for Rs 179 crore. The company would manufacture three million tones of cement.
