Six months have already passed when the inauguration of midday meal centre by former President APJ Abdul Kalam on January 16 this year was held, but the functioning of the centre established by VAL is still pending even after filling up of all its criteria.

Sources informed The Pioneer that the operation will start immediately after getting clearance from the district administration.

According to the information, the midday meal programme shall provide nutritious food to children of 166 schools in Lanjigarh block.

Though Naandi Foundation has committed in collaboration with VAL and Government of Odisha to provide freshly cooked food to the school children of Lanjigarh, the inordinate delay in getting green signal has been a worrying factor for all.

It aims at enhancing the nutritional status of children studying in Class I to III in Government-aided schools, besides improving their school attendance.

Moreover, it will generate downstream employment for the farming families through production of vegetables, pulses and cereals. Special focus is required by the State Government for its early functioning, locals here feel.
