Unseasonal rain in Kalahandi, for the last three days, has triggered alarm among both the farmers as it is being the harvesting period of the Kharif season.

Though the Chief Minister has ordered all the District Collectors to submit the crop situation and all the BDOs and Tehsildars here have been deputed to submit the crop reports, the farmers here are a worried lot.

In Kalahandi, 1,50,973 hectares of paddy crop was targeted this year while 1,96,151 hectares has been covered and paddy cultivated.

The aggrieved farmers told The Pioneer that gradually their harvested paddy has started sprouting due to the inclement weather condition and tends to ruin them.

The farmers have stocked their paddy on the khalas (open sheds for threshing) and desperately waiting for the sun so that it dries up and the trouble is shot back, but are seen apprehensive.

Even the untimely rain has wreaked havoc on the cotton farmers. A total 22,000 hectares of cotton crop was targeted this year while 26,315 hectares has been covered in all the 13 block of the district here.

Even the cotton farmers lamented before this scribe that, only the Government can save them as there is no way out for their survival.
