Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has asked Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to examine the proposal of upgrading the College of Agriculture at Kalahandi to a full fledged State Agriculture University.
Pawar's endorsement came following a proposal moved by Kalahandi MP Bhakta Charan Das who pitched in for varsity status for the college given the need for innovative and advanced technology in the region.
In his letter to Naveen, Pawar said, Kalahandi has emerged as one of the top producers of rice, cotton and pulses in the State and that makes the proposal reasonable. The College of Agriculture, under Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, was set up in 2009.
