Note: It is good to know the inititiave of local MP. Earlier we have been raising (See Comment, Letter and Memorandum) about requirment of IIM in Sambalpur region. We also thought Sambalpur is ideally located to become second knowledge center in Orissa and IIM could be justified for over all development of the region.
Amar demands for IIM
Tathya.in, New Delhi:5/August/2010
Amarnath Pradhan has thrown his hat to the IIM-O demand ring.
Member of Parliament from Sambalpur has demanded the setting up of an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Sambalpur it self.
He said that Sambalpur is the nerve centre of Western Odisha and it has the entire infrastructure to facilitate an IIM.
Mr.Pradhan said that the Union Government should create more opportunities for students in the state by opening at one IIM in the Odisha.
Recently the Standing Committee on HRD said in its report has asked the Centre to state and increase the number of seats in existing IIMs,
Mr.Pradhan said that as the state is witnessing rapid industrialisation, the necessity for setting up an IIM is increasingly felt.
He said majority of the mega projects are coming up in Western Odisha.
And to meet the requirement of these industries, an IIM is needed very much, said the MP.
It may be pointed out that Odisha has all along demanded an IIM and Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) has never been kind to the state since the days of Arjun Singh.
Though Kapil Sibal, the Union Minister HRD is not having such negative feeling, but he has not been generous to the state, said a senior official.
