Flash floods caused by heavy torrential rains has hit over thousands of people in the Kalahandi district rendering scores of them homeless. They are now getting sheltered in relief camps managed by the district administration. About 60,000 hectare crop land has been flooded after rains on August 4 and 5.
Flooding in several villages threw life out of gear in Koksara, Kalampur, Jaipatna, Junagarh, Bhawanipatna, Kesinga and Karlamunda blocks. On Saturday, Kalahandi MP Bhakta Charan Das visited the affected people of Biripur, Matia, Danapada, Karmeli under Kalampur block and later visited Kaudala village under Koksara block.
Reports said that Revenue Minister Suryanaryan Patro is likely to visit the flood affected areas on Sunday. Efforts are afoot to avert the outbreak of epidemic by the district administration.
